In a meeting convened at the CDIID office in Bo City on Tuesday, September 12, 2023, the Regional Police Commander South, AIG Brima Kanneh, delivered a firm commitment on behalf of the Sierra Leone Police Force to uphold peace and order in the Southern Region. Present at the meeting were Bo City Mayor Kobba Musa, along with various stakeholders.
The primary agenda of this gathering was to address the pressing concern of street congestion within Bo City. Distinguished participants included the Paramount Chief of Kakua Chiefdom, PC Lappia Boima IV, Brigadier General S.T. Kanu from the Gondama Military Brigade, representatives from the Sierra Leone Road Safety Authority (SLRSA), local traders, and officers from the two Police Divisions in Bo.
AIG Kanneh expressed his deep apprehension about the escalating problem of street congestion plaguing the city. He disclosed that prior discussions with various stakeholders, including traders, commercial motorbike riders, and drivers, had failed to yield a resolution. Consequently, he issued a stern warning to all parties involved, urging them to clear the congested streets and facilitate smooth traffic flow.
AIG Kanneh emphasized, "The Sierra Leone Police is unwavering in its commitment to ensuring public safety and will not tolerate or condone lawlessness." He also informed Mayor Kobba Musa that plans were underway to reintroduce police deployments on Bojon Street in the near future to restore order.
In response, Bo City Mayor Kobba Musa praised AIG Kanneh for his proactive measures aimed at addressing lawlessness and crime in the South, with a particular focus on Bo City. He implored AIG Kanneh to extend the necessary support to resolve the critical issue of street congestion, which posed a significant risk to the residents' well-being.
Brigade Commander Brigadier General S.T. Kanu, joining the conversation, pledged his support for the Mayor's initiative and acknowledged the longstanding challenges posed by street congestion in several key areas of the city.
"Maihei-Boima Road, Bojon Street, New London, and Fenton Road are consistently plagued by congestion caused by traders, drivers, and riders," noted Brigadier General S.T. Kanu.
In a unanimous decision, all stakeholders agreed to initiate joint operations on Thursday, September 21, 2023, to address the issue of street congestion in Bo City. This collaborative effort is expected to significantly contribute to maintaining peace and order in the city, thereby ensuring the safety and well-being of its residents.
