The Cabinet of India, led by the Prime Minister, has granted approval for the execution of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology of India and the Ministry of Information and Communications of Sierra Leone.
This MoU, slated to take effect immediately upon its signing, represents a significant stride towards enhancing collaboration between the two countries in the field of digital advancement.
The principal objective of this MoU is to facilitate the exchange of successful large-scale digital solutions. India, known for its pioneering "INDIA STACK" initiative, has been a frontrunner in digital transformation, and Sierra Leone aims to harness India's expertise in this domain. This partnership aims to foster increased cooperation, potentially leading to employment opportunities within the IT sector.
The scope of this agreement encompasses both Government-to-Government (G2G) and Business-to-Business (B2B) collaboration in the Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI) domain. The expenses associated with the activities outlined in the MoU will be funded through the routine operating budgets of the respective administrations.
India's Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) has been actively engaging with various countries and international organizations to promote cooperation in the field of information and communication technology (ICT). This aligns with India's broader vision of digital empowerment, as exemplified by initiatives such as Digital India and Atmanirbhar Bharat.
The MoU is slated to remain in effect for a duration of three years, during which both countries will closely collaborate to realize their digital transformation objectives.
