The National Publicity Secretary of Sierra Leone's principal opposition party, the All People's Congress (APC), Sidi Yaya Tunis, has disavowed any association between their party and any scheduled demonstration or protest taking place across the nation.
"We have not initiated any call for a demonstration, nor do we possess any knowledge of the organizers behind it. This event is entirely unrelated to our party," stated the APC Publicity Secretary.
Tunis highlighted that the protest gained traction primarily through various social media platforms, with WhatsApp serving as a prominent means of disseminating information. He urged all APC members and supporters to remain composed, prioritize safety, and adhere to the law. He reiterated that the Party had no involvement with any planned protest and had no knowledge of those responsible for its planning and execution.
Regrettably, the purported protest on Monday resulted in the tragic loss of life, with at least two casualties reported. Among the victims, one has been identified as a 50-year-old individual named Alfred Kallon, who tragically lost his life in the Moyiba Community in Eastern Freetown.
