Chief Minister Advances President Bio’s Justice Sector Reforms in Meeting with Chief Justice

David Monina Sengeh, the Chief Minister of the Republic of Sierra Leone, recently paid a visit to the High Court of Sierra Leone, where he engaged in discussions with Chief Justice Desmond Babatunde Edwards.

This visit aligns with one of the President's key objectives for his second term – the overhaul of the public and justice sectors. It marked the Chief Minister's inaugural visit to the high court, driven by the imperative of these reforms.

During the meeting, it was revealed that Chief Justice Edwards possesses a compelling vision for these reforms, encompassing initiatives such as a comprehensive review of the outdated Criminal Procedural Act of 1965 and the implementation of an electronic court system, among other transformative measures. In his own words, Chief Minister Sengeh noted, "One of President Bio's central goals is the revitalization of the public and justice sectors. This visit to the high court, my first ever, showcased Chief Justice Edwards' impressive vision for reform, which includes the modernization of the archaic Criminal Procedural Act of 1965 and the introduction of e-court technology, among other innovative strategies."
