KaiDDA Briefs Tourism Minister on Monument and Cultural Heritage Center Project


The Kailahun District Descendant Association (KaiDDA) recently held a meeting with the Minister of Tourism and Cultural Affairs, Nabeela Tunis, to discuss their plans for a monument and cultural heritage center in the district.

During the meeting at the Ministry's conference hall, the association provided an update to the Minister about their ongoing discussions with the Monuments and Relics Commission (MRC) regarding the development of a significant monument. They also sought the Ministry's support for the successful realization of this project.

Chairing the meeting, Rtd. AIG of police, Morie Lengor, informed the Minister of their efforts to establish a monument in Kailahun District. The proposed monument, named the "Kailondo Monument and Cultural Heritage Centre," aims to preserve the historical legacy of Kailahun. Lengor emphasized that once completed, the monument would have a positive impact on tourism and culture, as it would showcase artefacts and relics from various chiefdoms within the district. He also mentioned that they had secured a suitable piece of land for the project and presented the architectural design to the Minister.

In response, Minister Nabeela Tunis praised the association for their initiative and shared her enthusiasm for their proposed project. She highlighted the Ministry's commitment to expanding domestic tourism, which is expected to enhance peace and unity within the country. She recognized the project's focus on the district's chiefdoms and rich heritage, expressing confidence that it could serve as a model for other districts. Minister Tunis assured the association of the Ministry's support, including expediting the initial stage to attract investment from the diaspora.

The meeting was attended by Deputy Minister of Tourism and Cultural Affairs, Kadijatu Kamara, Administrative Manager of MRC, Ann-Marie Kamara, and members of the association.
