The Electricity Distribution and Supply Authority (EDSA) in Sierra Leone has allegedly submitted a proposal to the Electricity and Water Regulatory Commission, seeking an upwards of 100% raise in the electricity tariff. According to the Gleaner Newspaper, EDSA has formally asked the commission to consider an adjustment of the electricity tariff from its current value of 11 cents to a proposed 23 cents.
This development follows closely on the heels of an earlier government-sanctioned increase in the costs of petroleum commodities, where prices of petroleum products surged from 25 to 30 new Leones, marking a 20% upsurge. Remarkably, this marks the second occasion within a single month in which the government has elected to augment the prices of petroleum products.
In a previous instance in early August, the initial fuel pump cost of 25 new Leones underwent an elevation from 22 new Leones.
