Sierra Leone's Minister of Planning and Economic Development, Kenyeh Barlay, along with his team, recently conducted a site visit to evaluate the potential location for an upcoming state-of-the-art market in Waterloo. This visit is an integral part of a larger project encompassing the construction of five regional markets, the installation of 100 boreholes, and the provision of 1000 street lights throughout Sierra Leone. The commencement of these initiatives is imminent with the impending arrival of the technical team from China. The 11-acre site located near the Waterloo Market, adjacent to the highway, has undergone a thorough feasibility study to determine its suitability for the construction of the ultra-modern market.
Ambassador Wang Qing, the Chinese Ambassador to Sierra Leone, has previously affirmed his government's strong commitment and support for the successful execution of these projects, all of which are intended to enhance the well-being of the people of Sierra Leone. Teams of dedicated experts from relevant government agencies and the Chinese project team have conducted exhaustive feasibility studies at the proposed sites, representing a significant effort under the backing of the Chinese government.
The market women in Waterloo are eagerly anticipating positive news from the Sierra Leonean government to kickstart this transformation, openly sharing their challenges and aspirations. Minister Barlay has reassured them of the government's steadfast dedication to bringing this market project to fruition, aligning it with President Bio's Big5 agenda.
