On September 2, 2023, Alhaji Kanja Sesay, who serves as the Minister of Energy, conducted an inspection of the Bo-Kenema Network Rehabilitation and Expansion Project. The purpose of this visit was to gain first hand insights into the project's current status and progress.
During his inspection, the minister provided assurance that the project would be finalized according to the predetermined schedule, with completion expected by December of this year. He also emphasized the project's commitment to a successful implementation.
The primary objective of the project is to enhance the transmission and distribution infrastructure in both Bo and Kenema cities. It aims to extend access to high-quality and dependable electricity to 12 communities situated between these two urban centres, as well as to underserved areas within these cities.
Minister Sesay revealed that the project is financially supported by the FCDO (Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office) and the African Development Bank (AfDB). He underscored that this initiative would significantly enhance the quality and reliability of electricity supply in the two districts and enable residents to benefit from the CLSG (West African Power Pool) electricity network.
Expressing his satisfaction with the project's current status, Minister Sesay highlighted the substantial progress made by the contractors, which amounts to approximately 60% of the total project work. He also mentioned that all the necessary materials for project implementation and completion are readily available, and the construction of substations is already accomplished.
