The Ministry of Basic and Senior Secondary Education has disclosed the reason for the exclusion of over 7,000 candidates from the West African Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) this year. The Education Ministry has attributed the issue to school principals' failure to upload eligible candidates for the 2023 exams.
The Ministry has explained that the portal closed on March 31, but following multiple engagements with the West African Examination Council (WAEC) International, they convinced the council to extend the portal until April. However, 7,450 registered candidates are still at risk of missing the exams due to the said issue, out of the total 228,171 registered for the current year's exams.
The Education Ministry has urged affected candidates to exercise patience and trust in their efforts to resolve the problem. It is essential to note that WAEC oversees public exams in Nigeria, Ghana, The Gambia, Liberia, and Sierra Leone, having recently concluded exams for primary school pupils last Saturday.
