Sierra Leonean bakers are planning to go on strike due to a shortage of bread flour.

Due to a scarcity of bread flour in Sierra Leone, the Sierra Leone Bakers' Union Chairman, Imam Chernor Saadu Jalloh, along with other bakers, has announced that some members of the union will not be able to produce bread on Monday, April 10th and will instead go on strike.

Pee Cee & Son is the only company currently supplying flour at a limited quantity of one thousand (1000) per day nationwide. The Chairman stated that due to the shortage and high cost of bread flour, they have not been able to produce bread recently.

On Monday, during the strike, the union will hold a meeting to discuss the challenges facing them. The Chairman revealed that bakers are struggling to acquire bread flour, and the situation is uncertain for the next few days. The cost of bread flour at the black market is now NLe1,500 and NLe1,400 per 50kg bag, whereas it used to be sold for NLe800 per 50kg bag. The Chairman disclosed that bakers often approach him, seeking assistance in acquiring bread flour.
