Basita Michael, a prominent lawyer and former President of the Sierra Leone Bar Association, has expressed her condemnation of the killing of the OSD North-East Regional Commander, Mathew Moiwah Gbanya, also known as Boyka, in Makeni. She took to social media to describe the incident as a heinous act that all peace-loving Sierra Leoneans must denounce.
Michael also expressed disappointment that the incident occurred during the Easter weekend and in the Holy month of Ramadan, which are two religious observances that promote peace, forgiveness, and reconciliation. She emphasized the need for all peace advocates, including the Independent Commission for Peace and National Cohesion, to double their efforts to sustain peace in the country.
Michael called for an impartial police investigation into the case to bring the perpetrator to justice. The incident has resulted in the arrest of 31 suspects, including three women and 28 men, in different locations in the city. The incident has reportedly disrupted the ongoing collection of voters’ ID cards in the city.
