On Sunday, April 16th, 2023, a new pedestrian footbridge was installed at Lumley roundabout in Freetown, as part of a project to construct four pedestrian footbridges at selected locations within the Freetown municipality. The other three footbridges are located at Wilberforce Bottom Mango, Jui Intersection, and Shell New Road Intersection.
The SLIRUMP project is aimed at improving access to quality public transport, enhancing institutional capacity to plan and manage urban transport in the city of Freetown, and addressing climate change resilience.
The project is being implemented with a grant facility received in 2021 by the Government of Sierra Leone through the Ministry of Transport and Aviation (MoTA) from the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (IBRD)/International Development Association (IDA)/World Bank.
The contractor for the Lumley Pedestrian Bridge is Sierra Leone Construction Company (SECON Ltd.), an eco-friendly construction company founded in 2015 that has established itself as a leader in transforming the infrastructural look of Sierra Leone.
