Current Freetown Mayoral Candidate Hints at Opponent in Public Address

Yvonne Aki-Sawyerr, the current candidate for the Freetown Mayoral Election, has made a veiled reference to one of her primary rivals, Mohamed Gento Kamara, who is running on behalf of the ruling SLPP party.

During a public address at Attouga Mini Stadium, the former Mayor urged APC supporters to be aware that any monetary donations made in mosques are public funds and not the property of any individual nurtured by the APC. Although she did not mention Gento by name, many assumed that she was referring to him.

Aki-Sawyerr implored APC supporters to resist Gento's tactics and ensure that they vote for the APC at both district and ward levels. She also provided guidance on how to vote in the upcoming June 24th elections.

The relationship between the incumbent Aki-Sawyerr and the opposition Gento has been tense recently. Two weeks ago, Gento was recorded making divisive statements, which were interpreted by many as bigotry. In the video, Gento accused Aki-Sawyerr and some of her senior staff of being tribalists and religiously biased, which he claimed was his reason for running for the top job in the capital city.
