Haja Safinatu Conteh, Alpha Kargbo, Ibrahim Collier Hazeley, and Mohamed Nabieu, four of the dismissed police officers, entered a guilty plea before Magistrate Mark Ngegba of the Pademba Road Court No. 1 for possession of drugs including Kush and Cannabis Sativa.
Six counts of illegal possession of cannabis Sativa, Kush, and tramadol, all in violation of Section 48 (1) of the Pharmacy and Drugs Act of 2001, were brought against the four police officers.
According to the details of the offense, the first accused, Haja Safinatu Conteh, was discovered on Tuesday, November 8, 2022, at the SILEA site of the police training school in Hastings with 226 wraps of cannabis sativa hidden within a black plastic bag weighing 20 grams without a valid license.
On the same day and location, the second accused Alpha Kargbo was discovered in possession of six tramadol pills in a medical sachet weighing 0.2 grams, along with ten (10) kush wraps concealed in a medical sachet weighing 0.4 grams without a prescription.
Mohamed Nabieu was also discovered in possession of one wrap of kush weighing 0.2 grams without legal authorization, together with Ibrahim Collier Hazeley and Santigie Turay. Mohamed Nabieu was also discovered in possession of one wrap of cannabis sativa weighing 0.4 grams.
When they were arraigned, the first, second, third, and fifth accused entered guilty pleas, but the fourth accused, Santigie Turay, entered a not-guilty plea.
In order to produce the exhibits in this case in court, Police Prosecutor Assistant Superintendent of Police Ibrahim S. Mansaray requested that a subpoena be sent to the exhibit clerk.
The 4th accused's defense attorney, S. Sankoh Esq., asked for bail on behalf of his client, invoking section 79 of the Criminal Procedure Act No.32 of 1965.
If bail was granted, the learned Attorney reassured the Bench that the fourth accused would not elude capture or interfere with the investigation.
Bail was denied by Magistrate Ngegba, who postponed the case to Monday, December 5, 2022.
