The sessions and public hearings for the Special Investigation Committee (SIC), which is looking into the events of August 8–10, 2022, have started.
On November 28, 2022, the SIC paid a visit to the Kaffu Bullom Chiefdom in Lungi and met with the chiefs and other traditional leaders, chairwomen and chairwomen, and the security industry, including airport management and security.
Similar meetings were held by the SIC in the chiefdoms of Maforki and Bakelokoh, Port Loko, and Marampa in Lunsar on November 29 and 30, 2022.
The SIC's mandate is to ascertain the circumstances surrounding the riots of August 10—including their causes, financiers, and planners—and to inspire localities to develop suggestions for averting similar incidents in the future.
The discussions were termed as truth-seeking in a transparent and participatory manner by the SIC Chairman, Emmanuel Saffa Abdulai.
"The Committee is looking for the truth regarding the events leading up to the protests on August 10." We are not here to bring anyone to justice; rather, we are here to learn the facts and offer suggestions to help the government address the root issues.
On December 1, 2022, the SIC met with radio stations and the National Telecommunications Authority (NATCA), and on December 2, 2022, it met with political parties.
