His Excellency President Dr. Julius Maada Bio and Her Excellency the First Lady Dr. Fatima Maada Bio returned to the Freetown International Airport from the Africa Climate Change Summit held in Nairobi, Kenya. The President's full delegation, including his security personnel, was observed arriving at Lungi Airport and subsequently proceeding towards Freetown on Wednesday evening.Regarding the summit, President Bio conveyed, "The Africa Climate Change Summit presented a valuable opportunity to foster fresh alliances and initiatives aimed at expediting climate adaptation efforts throughout Africa. This initiative is intended to maintain the current momentum and enhance our commitment to climate adaptation in preparation for COP28."President Bio further emphasized, "The foundation of Africa's strategy for climate resilience depends on collaborative efforts with the international community. To magnify our adaptation endeavours, it is imperative to secure direct and unimpeded access to climate financing, reinforce local expertise, and adapt our policy frameworks to align with global climate imperatives, all of which are indisputable priorities."
He concluded, stating, "We must eliminate obstacles that hinder access to meaningful climate financing, harness innovative climate change adaptation and mitigation technologies, and explore new specialized markets, including carbon markets tailored to the needs of African nations."
