"Anticipation Builds for Crucial Dialogue Between Sierra Leone Government and APC"

In a recent update posted on his official Facebook page, Chief Minister David Moinina Sengeh expressed his enthusiastic anticipation for the upcoming discussions between the Government of Sierra Leone (GoSL) and the All People's Congress (APC) party. This dialogue is scheduled to take place from September 7th to 9th, 2023, and is set to involve both domestic and international mediators.

Chief Minister Sengeh has emphasized the paramount importance of peaceful negotiations and inclusive governance within Sierra Leone. He commented, "The pursuit of peace is a proactive endeavor, and effective governance should encompass all sectors of our society. I am gratified to observe the APC leadership's eagerness regarding this imminent dialogue."

The backdrop to this pivotal dialogue can be traced to the aftermath of the June 24th Elections when the APC, as the primary opposition party, announced its decision not to participate in the governance process. This decision was grounded in concerns related to the transparency and credibility of the electoral process.

Nevertheless, sources closely connected to the negotiations have indicated that the APC has put forth a series of prerequisites for their involvement in the dialogue. These prerequisites include the resolution of cases associated with the Commission of Inquiry, the restoration of properties to former government officials, the release of detained members of the party, and the freedom of LAJ and Kamarainba.

The upcoming dialogue between the GoSL and the APC carries immense significance in promoting political stability and encouraging constructive participation within Sierra Leone's democratic framework. It represents a crucial step toward the establishment of a harmonious and all-inclusive governance structure in the nation.
