SLBC Staff Complains About Ill-treatment by DG & Shabby Office After Being Aided With Le2.2Billion

Employees of the Sierra Leone Broadcasting Corporation (SLBC) headquarters situated in Freetown have expressed serious concerns regarding the alleged misconduct prevailing within the organization, along with the unfavorable treatment they claim to be enduring at the hands of Joseph Kapuwa, the Director General.

As per statements provided to Salone Gossip, a well-known online platform, the employees have conveyed that the Director General hired certain individuals in a manner that is purportedly in violation of established protocols. These newly employed personnel have apparently posed challenges for their colleagues, allegedly engaging in harassment and intimidation tactics. There are also allegations of them resorting to the fraudulent signing of documents using others' names.

Incidents have been reported wherein the Director of the engineering department was allegedly physically assaulted by these individuals just last week, following his discovery of their alleged attempt to counterfeit his signature. This action was seemingly intended to obstruct the ongoing investigations by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) concerning financial matters related to the June 2023 elections.

Despite receiving financial support of more than two billion old Leones from the government for the national elections held on June 24th, the media house appears to have failed to allocate resources towards the enhancement of its office infrastructure and equipment. Instead, reports indicate that the funds were utilized for the acquisition of only two Corolla cars, and the sale of t-shirts to the staff.

The condition of SLBC's broadcasting facilities and various areas within the establishment has been described as significantly deteriorated. Furthermore, the absence of internet connectivity for a duration exceeding a year has been highlighted. Employees have allegedly been subject to threats of potential actions by the Operational Support Division (OSD) from the Director General, should they contemplate organizing any form of protest.

Below are complete details of the grievances voiced by the staff, along with accompanying images depicting the present state of the media house.
