"Clarification Regarding ICC Meeting Request with President Bio: Insights from Alpha Khan's Interview"

Alpha Khan recently spoke in an interview on AYV, clarifying that President Julius Maada Bio wasn't extended an invitation by the International Criminal Court (ICC). Still, rather, the ICC expressed interest in holding a meeting with the president. Responding to the presenter's query about President Bio's ICC invitation status, Alpha Khan emphasized the distinction between an invitation and a meeting request, noting that the ICC had asked for a meeting during the president's visit to New York.

Alpha Khan emphasized the importance of accurate interpretation and comprehension of messages. He highlighted that there needed to be a better understanding regarding the communication from the ICC. He requested a moment to read the letter, a request that was granted by the presenter. He pointed out keywords like "respectfully" and "opportunity" in the letter, indicating that the ICC's prosecutor desired a discussion with the president following his participation in the ongoing session.

Alpha Khan reminded that Sierra Leone had been chosen as one of the six non-permanent member nations of the UN Security Council in June, receiving an impressive 188 out of 192 votes. He highlighted that this significant victory signified global confidence in President Bio and recognition of his dedication to peace. Alpha Khan indicated that the unanimous nature of the votes underscored this sentiment.

Further expounding, Alpha Khan specified that the forthcoming meeting with President Bio would centre on Sierra Leone's role as a non-permanent UN Security Council member. He clarified that the reason for the meeting lies in the interconnectedness of the ICC with the UN Security Council.

Regarding the ICC's request, Alpha Khan clarified that the decision to accept or decline rested on Sierra Leone. He noted that while it was a request, President Bio was inclined towards accepting, given his interest in engaging in a constructive dialogue with the ICC.

Alpha Khan concluded by noting that over the next two years, Sierra Leone would collaborate with the ICC on matters concerning peace and security.
