District Returning Officer Electoral Commission for Sierra Leone (ECSL) [Address] [City, State, Zip Code]
Subject: Withdrawal of Candidacy for Parliamentary Election
Dear Sir/Madam,
I hope this letter finds you well. I, Isata Felicia Wieh-Philips, hereby formally request the withdrawal of my candidacy for the parliamentary election in Koidu city, Kono District, under the All People's Congress (APC) party. I am writing to you in accordance with section 62 (1A) of the Public Election Act 2022, which allows a candidate to withdraw their nomination by delivering a written notice to the Returning Officer before the close of nomination.
On May 5, 2023, I submitted a resignation letter to the APC party, notifying them of my decision to step down as a member and candidate. This resignation letter was duly acknowledged by the deputy regional chairperson, Madam Magrette Suluku. However, despite my withdrawal and the acknowledgment of my resignation, the APC party nominated me as a parliamentary candidate without my consent.
Attached to this letter, you will find a copy of my resignation letter to the APC party, as well as a WhatsApp message from Madam Magrette Suluku acknowledging the receipt of my resignation.
Given the circumstances, I have full confidence in the Electoral Commission for Sierra Leone's commitment to conducting free, fair, and credible elections in accordance with the law. I kindly request that you take immediate action to withdraw my candidature from the parliamentary election.
Thank you for your attention to this matter. I trust that the Electoral Commission will uphold the principles of democracy and ensure that my withdrawal is processed promptly.
Yours sincerely,
Isata Felicia Wieh-Philips
