In a press release, the Ministry of Technical and Higher Education (MTHE) has announced that the Government of Sierra Leone is offering Grant-in-Aid (GIA) to eligible Sierra Leoneans for Degree, Diploma, and Certificate programs at various institutions for the 2022/2023 academic year. The institutions include the University of Sierra Leone (USL), Njala University (NU), Ernest Bai Koroma University of Science and Technology (EBKUST), Milton Margal Technical University (MMTU), Eastern Technical University (ETU), Freetown Polytechnic (FP), Government Technical Institutes, and Mattru School of Nursing.
The Ministry has given priority to female candidates pursuing studies in Sciences, Technology, Engineering, Agriculture, and Mathematics (STEAM). Additionally, children of teachers who have taught for ten (10) or more years, students in the Forces (Police, Military, Correctional Services, and Fire Force Officers), postgraduate medical students in public institutions, and students classified as disabled by the National Commission for Persons with Disability (NCPD) are also eligible to apply.
However, first-year students in their programs, Premed, or Foundation courses are not eligible to apply, except for female students in STEAM and medical programs. Interested applicants must apply through the MTHE website (www.mthe.gov.sl) and upload the completed application form with all supporting documents on or before 15th May 2023. Candidates must also choose the district where they want to be interviewed. This notice supersedes the previous notice dated 25th April 2023.
