Former President Koroma Speaks on Democracy in Africa

Ernest Bai Koroma, the former President of Sierra Leone, was appointed as the distinguished keynote speaker for today's webinar event, held on Wednesday, May 10, 2023. The event, titled 'Making Democracy Work in and for Africa,' was meticulously organized by AFROBarometer and Twaweza, utilizing the Zoom platform as its virtual hosting platform.

Koroma's selection as the keynote speaker stems from his notable accomplishments and leadership during his tenure as the President of Sierra Leone. Recognizing his significant contributions to the country, he was deemed an ideal candidate to share his insights on the subject.

The official announcement of his participation was made through a Twitter post by Twaweza Kenya. Accompanying the post was an informative flyer, affirming Koroma's role as the keynote speaker, along with a caption that emphasized the importance of electing leaders based on their character, experience, and track record rather than solely relying on ethnicity. The caption read as follows: "#Democracy could work in and for Africa when leaders are elected to office based on their character experience, track record and not mainly because of their ethnicity – Sierra Leone’s former President @ebklegacy".
