A leaked Pentagon document suggests that the US believes Israel can be influenced to change its stance on providing "lethal aid" to Ukraine, according to reports from American media outlets.
The document titled "Israel: Pathways to Providing Lethal Aid to Ukraine" suggests that Israel could be pressured or persuaded to provide Ukraine with surface-to-air and anti-tank missiles.
However, it should be noted that the authenticity of the document has been called into question and may be part of a misinformation campaign.
Israel has been reluctant to provide weapons to Ukraine following Russia's invasion in February 2022, with one reason being the need to maintain freedom of operations in Syria, where Russian forces control the airspace.
The document proposes four scenarios for getting Israel to supply military hardware to Ukraine, with the most "plausible" option being for Israel to adopt the "Turkish model" of selling missile defense systems through a third party while publicly calling for a peaceful end to the conflict and offering mediation services.
The US reportedly wants Israel to provide Barak-8 and Spyder surface-to-air missiles and Spike anti-tank guided missiles to Ukraine.
