A disturbing trend of scams has emerged in Sierra Leone, with many falling victim to this rampant problem. The perpetrators, often young people, are taking advantage of the current economic crisis in the country caused by inflation and exchange rate depreciation. Despite being descendants and owners of the land, they are preying on their own people.
Kai Bockarie Saquee, a Communications Officer, author, and Facebook influencer from Sierra Leone, shared his experience of being targeted by scammers on social media. He was lucky to have avoided falling for their trap and warned others about their new tactics.
These fraudsters now target occasions like funerals and birthday parties, reaching out to bereaved families and party organizers, pretending to be friends or family members, and offering help.
Saquee's experience revealed that he had recently suffered a loss and was almost scammed, but he managed to avoid it.
His warning serves as a caution to others to be vigilant and aware of this growing problem in Sierra Leone.
