Late ASP Gbanya Laid to Rest as Police Release All 31 Suspects in Connection to His Killing.

The late Policeman ASP Matthew Moiwah Gbanya was laid to rest today, Thursday 20th April 2023, at the Police Training School. The final funeral rites were performed before the burial, with members of the security forces, close friends, and relatives in attendance to pay their respects.

During the weekly police media update on Tuesday 18th April 2023 at the Sierra Leone police headquarters, Detective Inspector Joshua Moisa from the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) revealed that all 31 suspects arrested in connection with the killing of ASP Gbanya, the Regional Commander for the North, have been released. The arrests were made during the execution of duty, and while random, aimed to bring the perpetrators to justice. However, after thorough screening, the authorities were unable to gather enough evidence to charge any of the suspects.

Detective Inspector Moisa also confirmed that investigations into identifying the perpetrators are ongoing, and that the late Gbanya was shot at close range inside his private vehicle on Station Road in Makeni. Furthermore, he revealed that Gbanya had spent the Easter holiday with his family, who had visited him in Makeni before his tragic demise.
