HKH Arctic Youth Leadership Forum 2025 in Iceland (Fully Funded)
HKH Arctic Youth Leadership Forum 2025 Offers Fully Funded Opportunity in Iceland
Young leaders passionate about climate action from the Hindu Kush Himalaya (HKH) and Arctic regions are invited to apply for the fully funded HKH Arctic Youth Leadership Forum 2025, taking place in Reykjavik, Iceland, in October 2025. The forum, organized by the International Centre for Integrated Mountain Development (ICIMOD) and the Arctic Circle, aims to foster collaboration and knowledge sharing among young people addressing the impacts of climate change in these vulnerable regions.
A Collaborative Platform for Climate Solutions
The HKH region is warming at twice the global average, while the Arctic is warming nearly four times faster. This accelerated warming poses significant threats to the environment, livelihoods, and cultural heritage of communities in both regions. The forum provides a unique opportunity for young leaders to connect, share experiences, and develop innovative solutions to mitigate and adapt to these challenges.

Expert Perspective: Building Capacity for Climate Action
Dr. Anya Sharma, a climate policy expert at the University of Oslo, emphasizes the importance of such initiatives. "The HKH and Arctic regions are on the frontlines of climate change. Empowering young leaders from these areas with the knowledge, skills, and networks to address these challenges is crucial for building long-term resilience and fostering sustainable development," she says. "This forum provides a vital platform for cross-regional collaboration and the development of innovative solutions tailored to the specific needs of these vulnerable communities."
Historical Context: The Evolution of Youth Engagement in Climate Discourse
The focus on youth engagement in climate action has grown significantly over the past decade. Historically, environmental policies were often shaped by older generations, but the increasing awareness of climate change's long-term impacts has led to a greater recognition of the importance of involving young people in decision-making processes. International forums like the HKH Arctic Youth Leadership Forum represent a concerted effort to provide young leaders with the resources and platforms they need to contribute meaningfully to climate solutions.
Analytical Viewpoint: Fostering Sustainable Development Through Education
An analysis by the Global Education Monitoring (GEM) Report highlights the critical role of education in achieving sustainable development goals, including climate action. The report emphasizes that educational initiatives like the HKH Arctic Youth Leadership Forum not only enhance participants' knowledge and skills but also foster a sense of responsibility and empower them to become agents of change within their communities. By investing in the education and leadership development of young people, these programs contribute to a more sustainable and equitable future for both the HKH and Arctic regions.
