Fully Funded Youth Leadership Forum in Iceland Opens Applications for 2025
Applications are now being accepted for the Youth Leadership Forum in Iceland 2025, a fully funded program designed to empower young leaders from the Hindu Kush Himalaya (HKH) and Arctic regions. The program, offered by the International Centre for Integrated Mountain Development (ICIMOD) and the Arctic Circle, provides a unique opportunity for youth to collaborate on climate solutions and enhance their leadership skills.
Opportunity Overview
The selected participants, 12 in total, will engage in a year-long virtual fellowship culminating in an in-person event in Reykjavik, Iceland, in October 2025. All expenses related to the physical event, including travel, accommodation, and participation costs, will be fully covered. The forum aims to foster cross-regional collaboration and provide a platform for young leaders to share their experiences and contribute to addressing climate challenges.
Program Components and Benefits
The Youth Leadership Forum offers a comprehensive program that includes:
Monthly online meetings, webinars, and workshops. Capacity-building and training sessions led by climate experts from the Arctic and HKH regions. Opportunities to organize local, regional, and global campaigns related to climate issues. Participation in international forums and conferences. A certification of participation and reference letters upon successful completion of the program. Membership in a network of HKH and Arctic youth leaders, activists, policymakers, and climate advocates.
Expert Perspective: The Importance of Youth Engagement
"Engaging youth in climate action is not just a matter of intergenerational equity, it's a strategic imperative," says Dr. Anya Sharma, a leading climate policy analyst at the Global Climate Institute. "Young people bring fresh perspectives, innovative ideas, and a deep commitment to creating a sustainable future. Programs like the Youth Leadership Forum in Iceland are crucial for building the capacity of these future leaders and empowering them to drive meaningful change." Dr. Sharma also noted the importance of cross-regional collaboration, stating that "the HKH and Arctic regions face unique but interconnected climate challenges, and sharing knowledge and experiences is essential for developing effective solutions."
Historical and Current Context of Scholarship and Leadership Programs
Scholarship and leadership programs have a long history of fostering international collaboration and promoting positive social change. The Fulbright Program, established in 1946, is one notable example of a program designed to increase mutual understanding between the people of the United States and other countries through educational exchange. In recent years, there has been a growing emphasis on programs that specifically target youth and focus on addressing pressing global challenges such as climate change. These programs recognize the crucial role that young people play in shaping the future and seek to empower them with the skills and knowledge necessary to become effective leaders.
