World Water Challenge | Cash Prize, Trophy, Free Trip to Korea
World Water Challenge 2025 Offers Funding and Recognition for Innovative Water Solutions
The Ministry of Environment of Korea and the Korea Water Forum are inviting applications for the World Water Challenge 2025, a global competition seeking innovative solutions to pressing water-related issues. Individuals and organizations worldwide are encouraged to submit proposals addressing local or global water challenges for a chance to win a cash prize, a trophy, and a fully-funded trip to South Korea.
Opportunity to Address Critical Water Issues
The World Water Challenge aims to foster collaboration and knowledge sharing in the water sector, providing a platform for experts and innovators to connect and contribute to solving the world's water crisis. The competition underscores the critical importance of water resources and the need for sustainable solutions in the face of increasing global demand and environmental challenges.
Fully Funded Trip to Korea and Cash Prizes Await Winners
Up to ten selected individuals will be invited to participate in the Korea International Water Week (KIWW) in Daegu, Korea, from November 13-14, 2025. The host organizations will cover the airfare and accommodation costs for these finalists. During KIWW, finalists will present their solutions to a panel of judges. An awards ceremony will conclude the event, recognizing outstanding contributions to water resource management.
The awards include:
'THE BEST' Award: A cash prize of 10,000,000 KRW (approximately $7,500 USD) and an opportunity to participate and speak at the WWCH 2026. 'OUTSTANDING' Awards: Two awards, each with a cash prize of 3,000,000 KRW (approximately $2,250 USD).
Expert Perspective: Innovation and Sustainability are Key
Dr. Anya Sharma, a leading water resource management expert at the Global Water Institute, emphasizes the importance of innovation and sustainability in addressing water challenges. "The World Water Challenge is a crucial initiative because it actively seeks out and rewards creative solutions. However, the long-term impact of these solutions hinges on their environmental and economic sustainability. Proposals that integrate smart, cost-effective, and environmentally friendly technologies are more likely to be successful and contribute to lasting change," Dr. Sharma notes.
Eligibility Criteria and Application Process
The competition is open to anyone interested in solving water-related issues. Submitted ideas must have been developed within the past 10 years and should align with the WWCH 2025's designated categories. Previous participants are welcome to apply with new and different ideas. Multiple submissions from one individual or organization are permitted, provided each proposal presents a distinct solution.
Applicants must submit their proposals through the online submission system, using the provided Solution Submission Template. Key application requirements include:
A detailed description of the proposed solution. A summary of the solution. Supporting documents, such as articles, reports, videos, and photos. A graphical abstract illustrating the solution. A CV. A copy of the applicant's passport.
Email submissions will not be accepted.
Historical Context and Current Relevance
