KAUST Global Fellowship Program 2026 Opens Applications for Emerging Research Leaders
King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST) in Saudi Arabia is now accepting applications for the KAUST Global Fellowship Program (KGFP) 2026. This fully-funded, three-year program is designed to support exceptional postdoctoral researchers from around the world, providing them with the resources and mentorship needed to address critical global challenges. The deadline for applications is January 15, 2026.
A Fully-Funded Opportunity for Innovative Research
The KGFP offers a comprehensive package designed to enable fellows to focus on their research. Benefits include a $75,000 annual stipend, an independent annual research project budget of approximately $45,000, free access to KAUST's state-of-the-art laboratories, on-campus housing, access to mentorship and leadership programs, medical insurance, and allowances for travel and relocation. Childcare and schooling support are also provided.
“The KAUST Global Fellowship Program represents a significant investment in the next generation of research leaders,” explains Dr. Aisha Al-Ahmadi, a professor of engineering at a different Saudi university but familiar with KAUST's programs. “It provides a unique opportunity for postdoctoral researchers to conduct cutting-edge research in a supportive and collaborative environment, addressing some of the world’s most pressing challenges.”
Focus Areas and Program Strands
The KGFP is centered around five key pillars: water, energy, environment, food and health, and the digital domain. Research proposals should align with these pillars and fall under one of two program strands:
Fundamental research to advance scientific knowledge. Translational research to develop practical solutions to real-world problems.

KAUST's Commitment to Global Research
KAUST has rapidly established itself as a leading international research university. Its focus on science and technology, combined with its commitment to attracting top talent from around the world, has made it a hub for innovation in the Middle East. The KGFP is a prime example of this commitment, offering researchers the opportunity to contribute to meaningful research that can create a positive impact on society.
"KAUST's strategic location and investment in cutting-edge research make it an attractive destination for researchers," notes Dr. Omar Sharif, a science policy analyst. "The Global Fellowship Program not only benefits the individual fellows but also contributes to the advancement of scientific knowledge and the development of solutions to global challenges. It strengthens KAUST's position as a key player in the global research landscape."
The Evolving Landscape of Scholarship Opportunities
Scholarship and fellowship programs like the KGFP play a crucial role in promoting international collaboration and supporting talented individuals in pursuing their research goals. The increasing availability of fully-funded opportunities reflects a growing recognition of the importance of investing in scientific research and innovation, particularly in addressing global challenges such as climate change, food security, and public health. As the world becomes increasingly interconnected, these programs are essential for fostering a diverse and collaborative research community.
