Sierra Leone Police Addresses Lawlessness, Urges Public to Avoid Vigilantism

Brima Kamara, a prominent figure within the Sierra Leone Police, has responded to recent press statements issued by the law enforcement agency. These releases emphasized the importance of upholding both peace and proper conduct on the roads.

Kamara highlighted the observations made by the Sierra Leone Police regarding problematic interactions within various communities. He specifically addressed citizens' actions towards alleged criminals and individuals suspected of unlawful activities.

He emphasized that the legal framework of the country does not authorize the taking of another person's life under any circumstances. In the eyes of the law, every individual is considered innocent until proven guilty by a recognized court. He further emphasized that no individual possesses the right to administer physical punishment to someone suspected of a crime. Instead, such matters should be reported to the police for thorough investigation and subsequent legal proceedings.

Kamara stated, "Our intention is to convey to the public that the responsibility for safeguarding lives and property lies with the police. It is essential that people refrain from actions that fall outside the boundaries defined by the law."

He urged the general public to refrain from vigilante actions and encouraged them to report any suspected instances of theft or related incidents to the nearest police station. Rather than resorting to violence and harm, individuals should exercise their authority to apprehend suspects and then turn them over to the police for proper handling.
