The National Chairman of the major opposition party in Sierra Leone, known as the All People’s Congress (APC), Minkailu Mansaray, has conveyed that his party will not yield to any appeals from the current governing administration unless their specific conditions are fulfilled. This statement was reported by Exclusive Newspaper, which detailed that the Chairman articulated this standpoint during a meeting held at the party's headquarters located on Old Railway Line in Brookfields, Freetown.
During this gathering, the Chairman highlighted that attempts had been made by the government to engage in discussions with their party in the aftermath of an interview involving the US Ambassador David Reimer. Emphasizing their position, the National Chairman reiterated that their party is steadfast in its call for the release of disaggregated data according to polling stations.
Moreover, he affirmed their decision to persist with their boycott of government affairs and involvement. Mansaray further clarified that any negotiations with the SLPP (Sierra Leone People's Party) would only be entertained subsequent to an independent inquiry into the events surrounding the June 24 elections.
The primary opposition group declined to accept the outcomes presented by the Electoral Commission for Sierra Leone (ECSL) concerning the multitier election held on June 24. The declared results indicated the victory of the incumbent Julius Maada Bio in the initial round, along with a decline in APC's representation within their strongholds.
While Bio extended a gesture of reconciliation to the APC shortly after being inaugurated for his second term as President of the West African nation, recent events suggest that the impasse between the government and the principal opposition faction is set to persist.
