In Guinea's Kintinian, located in the northeastern part of the country's Siguiri Prefecture, a tragic incident occurred involving the death of a Sierra Leonean national in a gold mine landslide. The event took place on Wednesday, July 12, around 2 pm. Guineematin.com, an online news platform based in Conakry, reported that the victim, identified as 22-year-old Alpha Kourouma, was laid to rest with the approval of the relevant authorities. A team comprising healthcare professionals and security personnel visited the site to assess the situation.
Dr. Aboubacar Bachir Conde, the leader of the medical team dispatched by the prefectural hospital of Siguiri, confirmed the cause of death and the victim's identity. "The deceased is named Alpha Kourouma, a Sierra Leonean who was present at the site in search of gold," Dr. Conde stated.
Siguiri is renowned for its gold mining activities, which often include illegal operations. The region possesses abundant gold resources, but such activities lead to frequent accidents like landslides. In fact, a similar incident occurred in October of the previous year, resulting in the deaths of at least eight individuals. According to the local Red Cross, a total of 76 people have lost their lives in various landslides in the area.
