Sierra Leone Becomes the Newest Member of World Physiotherapy Organisation

Sierra Leone officially joined the World Physiotherapy Organisation (WP) on Monday, July 10, 2023. WP is the global body for physiotherapy, representing over 120 countries and 600,000 physiotherapists worldwide.

The decision to admit Sierra Leone was made at the WP's annual general meeting in Cape Town, South Africa. The Sierra Leone Physiotherapy Association (SLPA) applied for membership in 2022 and was accepted after a rigorous assessment process.

The SLPA was founded in 2016, and is the only national physiotherapy association in Sierra Leone. The association has been working to raise the profile of physiotherapy in the country, and to improve access to physiotherapy services for all Sierra Leoneans.

The admission of Sierra Leone to WP is a major milestone for the country's physiotherapy profession. It will allow SLPA members to access WP's resources and training, and to network with physiotherapists from around the world. It will also help to raise awareness of physiotherapy in Sierra Leone, and to improve access to physiotherapy services for all Sierra Leoneans.

In a statement, the SLPA said that it was "delighted" to be admitted to WP. The association said that it was "committed to working with WP to improve the health and well-being of all Sierra Leoneans."
