Senior APC member Ady Macauley has condemned Karene District MP Mohamed Bangura for defying the party's boycott of governance.

Macauley said that Bangura had committed "a political sin that cannot be forgiven" by acting selfishly and not for the benefit of his constituents. He accused Bangura of keeping his friendship with President Julius Maada Bio ongoing, and of receiving monetary gifts from the President.

Bangura's decision to take office has hampered the APC's stance to boycott governance over the June 24 election results. The party released a dossier signed by elected mayors, district chairpersons, and parliamentarians to boycott their office, but Bangura refused to sign the document. He said that he would be going against his constituents if he did so.

Macauley said that Bangura's actions had "hampered the APC's efforts to fight for justice" and that he had "betrayed the trust of the people who elected him." He called on Bangura to resign from the APC.

Bangura has not yet responded to Macauley's comments.

Here are some additional details:

  • Bangura is the only APC MP who has not joined the boycott.
  • The APC has accused the ECSL of rigging the election results in favor of President Bio.
  • The APC has called for the election results to be annulled and for new elections to be held.
  • The APC has also called for President Bio to resign.

It remains to be seen what impact Bangura's decision will have on the APC's boycott.
