Commencement of the Sixth Parliament of Sierra Leone's Second Republic


The full term of leadership for the sixth parliament of the second Republic of Sierra Leone has officially commenced, spanning from July 13, 2023, to July 13, 2028. The parliamentary proceedings began with prayers and the administration of the oath to the elected Members of Parliament, who were warmly welcomed as MPs in the parliament house on Thursday, July 13, 2023.

In the initial parliamentary session following the June 24th elections, the Clerk of Parliament, Hon. Paran Umar Tarawally, successfully administered the Oath of Office to 96 Members of Parliament on July 13, 2023. This oath is prescribed in the Third Schedule of the Constitution of Sierra Leone (Act No. 6 of 1991) and establishes the composition of the Sixth Parliament of the Second Republic of Sierra Leone.

When subscribing and signing the Oath of Office, the MPs pledged their true faith and allegiance to the Republic of Sierra Leone as established by law. They also vowed to uphold and defend the Constitution of Sierra Leone and fulfil their duties as Members of Parliament faithfully and conscientiously.

The elected leadership for the sixth parliament is as follows:

  • Hon. Dr. Abass Chernor Bundu – Speaker of the House.
  • Hon. Segepoh Thomas – Deputy Speaker.
  • Hon. Mathew Sahr Nyuma – Majority Leader and Leader of Government Business.
  • Hon. Bashiru Silikie – Deputy Majority Leader and Leader of Government Business One (1).
  • Hon. Emerson Saa Lamina – Deputy Majority Leader and Leader of Government Business Two (2).
  • Hon. Dickson Rogers – Chief Whip.
  • Hon. Kadie Sesay – Deputy Chief Whip One (1).
  • Hon. Tawa Conteh – Deputy Chief Whip Two (2).
