WARDC Announces Two-Day Cleaning Exercise and Dredging Activities in Waterloo Market Square and Freetown Park

Freetown, June 9, 2023 - The Western Area Rural District Council (WARDC) is pleased to inform the general public, particularly traders in the Waterloo Market Square, about an upcoming two-day cleaning exercise and dredging activities at the dumpsite in Freetown Park. This initiative aims to enhance cleanliness, environmental sustainability, and waste management practices within the community.

The cleaning exercise is scheduled to take place on Saturday, June 10th, and Sunday, June 11th, 2023, commencing promptly at 6:00 am on both days. To ensure a thorough and efficient cleaning process, Waterloo Market Square will be temporarily closed, and regular business activities will be suspended during this period. The tasks involved in the cleaning exercise include drainage cleaning, canal dredging, sweeping, waste collection, and general maintenance, all aimed at creating a clean and hygienic market environment.

WARDC kindly requests the cooperation and support of the public in refraining from engaging in any sales or commercial activities within the market premises on the specified dates. By respecting this temporary closure, we can collectively contribute to the success of the cleaning exercise and the overall well-being of our community.

Concurrently, the council will be conducting dredging operations at the dumpsite in Freetown Park. This activity seeks to improve waste management practices and mitigate environmental degradation. For safety purposes, the dumpsite will be cordoned off, and access will be restricted throughout the duration of the dredging operation. It is crucial for everyone to adhere to the safety instructions and refrain from entering the designated area until the dredging is completed.

WARDC further encourages civil society organizations, media outlets, and individuals to join hands in raising awareness about the importance of the cleaning exercise and its positive impact on the community. Through collaborative efforts, we can create a healthier, cleaner, and more pleasant living environment for all residents.

For more information or any inquiries regarding the cleaning exercise and dredging activities, please contact the Western Area Rural District Council office.

Together, let us build a cleaner and more sustainable community.
