Sylvia Olayinka Blyden commends President Julius Maada Bio for honoring his commitment to the Alex Focus Charity Organization, a disability charity in Freetown. Blyden acknowledges that the President made this promise during his visit to Europe the previous year, where he engaged with the Sierra Leonean community.
During the visit, a charity organization from France expressed their need for state land to establish a facility that would provide free skills training and accommodations for individuals with disabilities. President Bio assured them that their request would be granted.
Blyden reveals that she closely monitored the progress of this commitment, ensuring that all necessary paperwork was completed. She proudly announces that the President has fulfilled his promise, as the organization has successfully obtained the required land.
In her statement, she states, "I am pleased to confirm that President Julius Maada Bio has kept his promise to the Alex Focus Charity Organization. During his visit to Europe last year, he engaged with the Sierra Leonean community, and during a Town Hall meeting, the charity based in France requested state land to build a free Skills Training Center and Living Quarters for Persons with Disability. President Bio was impressed and faithfully promised that the land would be allocated upon completion of the necessary requirements."
"As a prominent advocate for disability rights in Sierra Leone for over 25 years, I closely followed the progress of this commitment. Today, I can confirm that the Honorable Minister of Lands, Dr. Turad Senessie, has informed me that the Alex Focus Charity has been granted a leasehold of over four acres of prime land for the construction of the Skills Training Center and Living Quarters for Persons with Disability."
"The Minister of Lands, Dr Turad Senessie, expressed to me in a WhatsApp chat that President Maada Bio is known as 'TOK n DO,' meaning that when he makes a promise, he follows through. He directed me to ensure that the land was granted, and I have accomplished it. President Bio is a man of action."
"Upon receiving the news, Mr. Foday Fofanah, the founder of Alex Focus Charity based in France, was overwhelmed with joy and expressed his heartfelt gratitude to President Bio for keeping his promise."
"Famous members of the disability community in Freetown also conveyed their deep appreciation to the President for this generous gesture. The prime land is located in the Six Mile settlement along the Waterloo Highway."
