Orange Sierra Leone Launches Secure and Convenient Orange Money Card for Cash Transactions

Orange Sierra Leone, the leading mobile services provider in the country, has introduced the Orange Money Card, offering customers a more secure and convenient way to cash in and cash out money.

The Orange Money Card utilizes a scan of the Orange Money QR code, allowing customers to access their funds anytime and anywhere.

During his speech, Mr. David Mansaray, CEO of Orange Money Sierra Leone, highlighted the card's benefits. He mentioned that it can assist customers in retrieving their mobile numbers if forgotten and reduces transaction errors. The card can be used at shops that accept Orange Money payments by simply handing it to the merchant, who will scan it to process the payment for the desired item.

Furthermore, the CEO emphasized that Orange Money is now accessible to everyone, irrespective of having an Orange SIM card or a smartphone. The Orange Money Card enables users to enjoy the benefits of Orange Money without needing a smartphone. It facilitates swift payments at supermarkets and shops, and it is positioned for the forthcoming development revolution, allowing payment for fuel and other items. The CEO encouraged everyone to obtain the Orange Money Card.

He concluded by stating that the card simplifies transactions with Orange Money, eliminating the need to recite numbers or enter codes. Orange will continue to enhance the digital landscape of the country and expand its services throughout the nation.

Continuing the launch event, Madam Abibatu, Deputy CEO of Orange Money Sierra Leone, called upon Sierra Leoneans to start using the card. She highlighted that the card revolutionizes financial transactions, providing easy and secure ways to send and receive money using the Orange Money Card. The card is not restricted to Orange customers only; even non-Orange customers can utilize it for money transfers. It offers opportunities for both Orange and non-Orange customers to access Orange Money services. The card aims to bridge the financial divide, promote financial inclusion, and cater to individuals who need access to financial services.

The Operations and IT teams at Orange Sierra Leone provided a detailed explanation of how the card operates in a memo.

The Operations Manager explained that the card is a key component of Orange Money's digital transformation. While the USSD code (#144#) still exists, the Orange Money service has now gone digital. Orange Money has two distinct apps: one with an orange logo commonly used by customers and another with a black logo called "Orange Money Pro," which allows agents or merchants to scan and access the card.

To obtain the service, customers must visit an Orange Money shop and request an Orange Money Card. The card costs NLE10, which is an affordable price considering its functionality and security.

The card is linked to the customer's Orange Money current account number, and the customer's ID card is required for validation purposes.

The process to obtain the card involves linking it with the customer's phone number if they already have an Orange Money SIM. Additionally, the customer's ID is required to confirm the account. After presenting the ID, a Time Password (OTP) is sent to the customer's SIM card, valid for 1 minute. The customer must provide the OTP to the agent, who will enter it along with a 6-digit OTP generated by the agent. Both the agent and customer receive a confirmation message once the card creation process is completed.

For non-Orange customers (e.g., Africell and Qcell users), they need to download the Orange Money app from the Google Play Store (for Android users) or the App Store (for iOS users) and register by creating an account using their ID details. After creating an Orange Money wallet, they can visit an Orange Money agent shop to request a card.

Cash Out: To cash out with the card, anyone can scan it, and the owner's name and number will appear. The agent selects "cash out" on their phone and asks the customer for the withdrawal amount. Once the amount is confirmed, both the customer's and agent's phones display the transaction details for confirmation. An OTP is sent to the customer, and the agent needs to enter the code to approve the transaction. Without the OTP, the transaction cannot take place, ensuring security in case of card theft.

Cash In: For cash deposits, the agent scans the card to access the owner's details, including name and number. After verifying the desired deposit amount, the agent approves it, and the customer receives a notification message confirming the transaction. Cash deposits do not require an OTP; the confirmation message is sufficient for both the agent and customer.

It's important to note that for each cash-out transaction, a separate OTP is sent to the customer. Therefore, if a customer wishes to cash out multiple times, they will receive a unique OTP for each transaction.
