The All People's Congress (APC), Sierra Leone's main opposition party, has scheduled a press conference today, Wednesday, June 14, 2023, at the Raddison Blu Mammy Yoko Hotel in Freetown. Dr. Samura Kamara, the APC's presidential candidate, will deliver a speech addressing the people of Sierra Leone.
The primary focus of Dr. Samura Kamara's speech will be to express the APC party's dissatisfaction with the integrity and validity of the published Voter Register. Additionally, he will highlight the poor quality of the voter ID cards provided to the electorate in preparation for the upcoming elections on June 24.
Lansana Dumbuya, the National Secretary General of the APC, emphasized that the press conference aims to draw attention to "serious electoral malpractices that have the potential to undermine the successful conduct of a free, fair, transparent, peaceful, and credible electoral process" in the forthcoming elections.
The APC intends to raise awareness about these issues among the international community, media, and the people of Sierra Leone.
In a previous public notice issued by the party on June 11, 2023, the APC leadership expressed concerns about repeated violations of the country's 1991 Constitution and relevant provisions of the Public Elections Act (PEA) of 2022 by the Electoral Commission of Sierra Leone (ECSL).
Despite the APC's efforts to address these concerns with the ECSL, they claim that the commission has been uncooperative.
