On May 9th, a six-story building collapsed in the Old Road community, leaving individuals trapped beneath the wreckage. The NDMA issued guidance to nearby residents to relocate, while simultaneously organizing a search and rescue operation. Regrettably, this effort led to the discovery of three fatalities.

Additionally, the NDMA revealed that Freetown experienced heavy rainfall on May 10th, resulting in flash floods and causing minor damage to some properties. Furthermore, a perimeter fence collapsed in Bankole Community, resulting in the loss of six lives and injuring two individuals.

The NDMA emphasized their collaboration with partners to offer medical assistance to the injured and evaluate the consequences for further necessary measures.

Moreover, the NDMA has initiated flood mitigation exercises in various flood-prone communities across the country.

The public is strongly encouraged to promptly report any incidents of disasters within their communities to the NDMA. Furthermore, individuals are advised to trim weak branches near their residences during the rainy season and relocate to higher ground if they reside in low-lying areas.
