The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) in Sierra Leone has issued a public warning regarding allegations of corruption and malpractice during the West Africa Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).
The ACC has received multiple complaints about candidates using mobile phones with the consent of invigilators, as well as demands for bribes from students, parents, guardians, and school authorities to facilitate examination malpractice.
Engaging in corrupt activities or practices during an educational program or examination, as stated in Section 128 (3) of the Anti-Corruption Amended Act of 2019, is considered an offense.
The ACC emphasizes that school authorities, invigilators, and all examination officials must not demand or accept any form of bribe or advantage.
The ACC has warned that its Elite Scorpion Squad will take immediate action if evidence of organized examination malpractice cells and networks is found. Those involved will be arrested, detained, and prosecuted accordingly.
The ACC encourages the public to report any complaints or information to their headquarters in Freetown, Bo-Pujehun Drive in Bo, Reservation Road in Kenema, Mena Hills in Makeni, Kainkordu Road in Koidu, or Sheriffa Street in Port Loko City. Hotlines are also available at 077-985-985 and 077-986-986.
The Commission hopes that this warning will discourage individuals and groups from engaging in corrupt practices during the ongoing WASSCE examination.
