"US and UK Embassies Condemn Killing of Assistant Police Superintendent in Sierra Leone"


   The killing of Assistant Police Superintendent ASP Mathew Moiwah Gbanya, also known as "Boyka," in Makeni has been condemned by the United States and the United Kingdom embassies in Sierra Leone. Gbanya was reportedly shot by an unknown person on Saturday night and his death has caused reactions from different civil and non-civil societies.

The Sierra Leone Association of Journalists (SLAJ), former minister Sylvia Blyden, and ACC Commissioner Francis Ben Kaifala are among those who have reacted to his death. In a separate statement, both embassies have called for sustained peace in Sierra Leone while condemning the act.


The US and UK ambassadors to Sierra Leone, David Reimer, and Lisa Chesney, respectively, have expressed their condolences to Gbanya's family, friends, and colleagues. Gbanya was the OSD Regional Coordinator in the North until his death and was known for his strong physical appearance and firmness in enforcing law and order.

The Sierra Leone Police have arrested 31 suspects in connection with the incident.
