Yirewa, a Spanish humanitarian organization, is set to provide farmers in Moyamba District with a tractor to aid in their farming activities. Osman Koroma, the organization's contact in Sierra Leone, stated that the tractor was purchased through a campaign launched last year, following a request made by local farmers in Magbogsei, Bathbai, Lilhihamma, and Rotifunk villages, who face difficulties in providing food during the wet season due to their outdated tools.
Yirewa Association registered both in Spain and Sierra Leone, has been providing medical assistance to those in need in villages across the country.
While Sierra Leone is known for its farming industry, the country is still considered food insecure by the World Food Programme. President Julius Maada Bio recently announced that if re-elected, his government will focus on agriculture.
