Former Nigerian President, Obasanjo to Lead Pre-Election Mission to Sierra Leone

The West African Elders' Forum (WAEF) has appointed former President Olusegun Obasanjo to lead a pre-election fact-finding team to Sierra Leone ahead of the country's general elections scheduled for June.

The Goodluck Jonathan Foundation's communications officer, Wealth Dickson Ominabo, announced on Wednesday that a delegation led by former President Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, including former President Goodluck Jonathan and former Vice-President of The Gambia, Fatoumata Tambajang, has been deployed by the West African Elders' Forum (WAEF) to conduct a pre-election fact-finding mission in Sierra Leone ahead of the general elections scheduled for June 2023.

The team's two-day mission aims to assess the country's readiness for the elections and lay the groundwork for supporting inclusive and peaceful elections. The members of the mission will hold consultations with Sierra Leone's political leaders, civil society, and other key stakeholders, including the Diplomatic Corps and the Electoral Management Bodies and Agencies, to deepen citizens' confidence and trust in the electoral process and ensure that the elections are free, fair, and credible.

The mission in support of inclusive and peaceful general elections is scheduled to begin on Wednesday, April 12, 2023.
