Reportedly, 31 individuals, including 3 women and 28 men, have been apprehended in connection to the killing of ASP Mathew Banya, the OSD North-East regional coordinator, on the evening of April 8th, 2023. Regional crime busters made this announcement on HOPE FM:93.3 and reported that the suspects were arrested in different locations throughout the city. The incident caused fear and panic in Makeni, but the situation is gradually returning to normal. The regional commander, AIG Sahr Yonka Senesie, appeared on the radio show "U en d law" and called for public cooperation in the ongoing investigation. Local leaders have also condemned the killing and extended condolences to the officer's family, while appealing for the public to provide the police with useful information. The incident reportedly impacted the collection of voters' ID cards, as some centers in the epicenter did not open, and those that did were not attended by anyone outside the surroundings of the crime scene.
